Gallery Collection
The Permanent Art Collection serves as both an educational resource for the UNI campus and an important cultural asset for the region. It is primarily housed at the UNI Gallery of Art in a state-of-the-art storage and research facility, which is regularly visited by classes, donors, and museum professionals. Today, the Collection includes nearly 4,400 works, ranging from 15th-century illuminated manuscripts and Rembrandt etchings to major modern works by artists such as Philip Guston, Robert Rauschenberg, Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, and Barbara Morgan. In recent years, we have continued to grow the Collection with works by contemporary artists including Hanne Darboven, Sunkoo Yuh, Mark Dion, Darryl Curran, and Robert Arneson.
Museum Collection
The UNI Museum & Center for Rural Schools is a vibrant hub for exploring world cultures and advancing rural school research, blending original scholarship, classroom teaching, technologies, and engaging programs. Through hands‑on work with material culture, the museum creates multi‑disciplinary learning experiences that strengthen campus and community connections and foster a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and people.
Botanical Center Collection
Home to approximately 1400 different plant specimens, the UNI Botanical Center offers a unique teaching resource for Biology and other departments across the university. The greenhouse is a beautiful venue for various hands-on learning activities serving public, private & home school groups throughout the community. Guests can relax and enjoy the curated collection while learning about various tropical, aquatic and desert dwelling plants in the six public greenhouses.
